Wrap-Up For The Fall 2013 Show

We had another WOW record weekend with a really great show that saw many buyers and sellers from near and far!! Both early shopper and regular buyers were here in quantity as can be viewed from our photo gallery. Many buyers and sellers arrived from Japan, Europe, Australia and even a few from Russia plus all over the USA and Mexico. Many records were broken, and I don’t mean vinyl ones but sales records by our longtime dealers / sellers. I do apologize for taking so long to get our Wrap-Up posted here but been a lot going on!

For over 35 years: Your music marketplace!

We had 3 of our local TV stations make an appearance and film interviews with various Dealers that ran on the Friday and Saturday Evening news shows. Our revival of the search announcements met with mixed results, as always it worked for some people but not for others. We may continue this search agenda during the next show but it will depend on the response from our Dealers.

NEXT SHOW: October 24-25-26 2014

The dates for the next show are October 24-25-26 but these are TENTATIVE dates, and this means the dates can change !!!

We have had this problem once or twice before in our past 35 year history so stay tuned to this website to see what happens with our struggle to find dates that work for all of us. For all you overseas travelers trying to jockey airline schedules, job and vacation agendas, etc, we’re very sympathetic but Austin’s event calendar is getting so crowded these days it’s very hard to find an empty spot. We’ll put up a notice about the upcoming show as soon as we know anything definite!!! So check back to this web-site by April 1 to see what we have in place.

Farewell to Chet Flippo and Martha Hume

I also have a sad duty to perform as my longtime friend and music man Chet Flippo passed away on July 20. My wife and I knew Chet and his equally talented wife, Martha Hume, for almost 50 years. I first met Chet in 1970 when he came into my first record job at Discount Records across from UT on the Drag in Austin. We hit it off immediately and we stayed connected for many years. I'd always loved his writing for Rolling Stone in those days and we would swap favorite record stories and I'd try to introduce him to obscure & hot new releases, but he always seemed to know them first. One of my first record hunting expeditions was with Chet to an old record store in Killeen, Texas. My wife Jan and Martha also became good friends, and when they moved to New York for Rolling Stone, Jan flew with Martha to watch their cats. Chet came back to visit friends and sell off extra records at the Austin Record show a couple of times. It was always great to see him, he was a true Texas gentleman, a real music scholar and a superb writer. Martha had passed a few months before Chet and we're sure gonna miss them both.

About the ARC

The Austin Record Convention is the largest sale of recorded music in the USA. There is more music and related memorabilia available here, at one time, than anywhere else. Ranging from the 78's of the 1930s to the latest compact discs of today, over one million 78s, 45s, LPs, CDs, cassettes, posters and collectibles (probably even a few 8-track tapes!) are in the auditorium. Over 300 different dealers from all over the USA and Europe are spread out over 50,000 square feet of floor space. The show is so big that to see everything takes most of the weekend, so if you're in a hurry we have tables where customers can post search announcements in hopes of locating specific items.

The show brings together collectors and dealers from all over the world for a weekend of activity in Austin. The event started in 1981 and has been held twice a year, in the spring and fall, ever since. It has grown steadily over the years and now uses all available floor space at the event center. The location in Austin, "Live Music Capital of the World", is a beautiful city that is great fun to visit has aided in the popularity of the event. If you attend the show be sure to save some energy for an evening visit to any of the many clubs around town and check out the live music scene for which Austin is world famous.

Selling and Buying Vinyl at the Austin Record Convention

The Austin show is the best marketplace to sell and/or buy vinyl in the USA. Whether it’s 45s, 78s or LPs this is the place to sell or buy them. We have an established base of buyers from all over the USA, Europe, Japan, Australia and elsewhere that have been attending our show for many years. If you have a vinyl collection and don’t want to go thru the long drawn out process of selling it on-line, Austin is the place to sell it fast and for reasonable prices. Due to this it’s also the best place to find sought after vinyl, whether it’s soul 45s, hard rock LPs or blues 78s. Either buying or selling vinyl, it’s all about the Austin Record Convention.
